Lagging of properties for future enforcement issues of these properties should they arise, but hopefully they do not. Should they arise,
00:00:09
but hope There's some of our successes. The property to the left is, formerly night as a former nightclub. It has been vacant for many, many years. And after we started enforcing the vacant structure and ordinance initially, we were able to get today
00:00:27
on the, the issue of the one night stay. So, yeah, I I think this is a step in the right direction to solve the issues that residents have expressed concerns with.
00:00:43
Through the chair, yeah, just echo, Mayor Pro Tem Mikulski's sentiments. Thank you for the staff's four or five months. I think you said you're working on this.
00:00:52
Yep.
00:00:52
Thank you to the ordinance committee for for working hard on this. You know, I I think, madam mayor, to your point, I think this, you know, fostering good stewardship of our our community, I think that this potentially also benefits the short term rental owners who are good stewards of the community because it makes space for more of them to come in and operate within Ferndale. So I think we could have that hope as well. So yeah. Thank you.
00:01:18
Great. And then just through the chair, I just wanted to acknowledge that, you know, council mayor Pro Tem Mikulski and I serve on the time. So I appreciate the community being patient. I appreciate, you know, Ross, your CD department, working with the ordinance committee, city manager, and your staff, because I know people want these ordinances to move rather quickly, but it takes time. And the ordinance committee is really thoughtful as far as how they kinda break things down really line by line.
00:01:50
So thank you, ordinance committee, for what you're doing for that too. Thank you. So now we will need a roll call.
00:02:00
Kelly? Yes. Sabatini? Yes. LaSalle?
00:02:03
Yes. Mikulski? Yes. Leakes May?
00:02:05
Yes. So the motion to approve the amendments to the Ferndale Municipal Code chapter seven business regulation and licenses, article seven public lodging houses and multiple dwellings division three short term rental licensing section seven seven dash one vision, for the $100,000 that we have just received. So I'm just saying that collaboration and and collaboration matters and that we can there's so much that we can do if we just kind of put our hands out there and just say, hey. We need this. Had they not connected, we wouldn't have that $100,000 on our agenda today.
00:02:46
From what I'm hearing, Lorena, once she found out the possibility of being able to get this money, really pulled her team together and applied for this this, grant within, like, three to four days, so less than a week. And I'm really proud to say that the Oakland County Parks And Recreation Commission, unanimously voted in favor of of Ferndale and us receiving the grant, which is depth was just going to directly affect Lennon Park, a park that maybe has not received so many upgrades at the time. So that that's really huge. And I really want to thank and I want to name the Oakland County board parks and rec board, who were instrumental in making this happen quickly. Yolanda Smith Charles, Oakland County Commissioner, Anne Erickson Gault, Oakland County Commissioner, Eric McPherson, actually representing Hazel Park, and then, of course, Kate Baker, former chair and former council member.
00:03:46
Also, what I was in I was informed, and I think Hazel Park will probably have their own announcement, but it's been some time so they might have announced it already. But, something else that has been approved to that commission is that the Hazel Park Community Center has now been, issued funds to implement a senior exercise room. So that's going to benefit not only Hazel Park residents, but it's also going to benefit our senior residents who are here, who utilize the Hazel Park Community Center. So it's just things like that that make me really proud and, and one instance where government moves very move quickly. It doesn't always happen, and I'm just really proud about that.
00:04:28
So hats off to Lorena, the parks and rec team for doing what you do automatically, but, and I'm looking forward to the basketball courts that are going to be coming into Lennon Park based on that grant and as as far as some other upgrades. So I'm happy about that. That is good news. It's been kinda good news all around. I just I wanna thank everyone for coming out tonight.
00:04:54
